I exercise almost daily and have been a fitness enthusiast since college. But with the demands of work, parenthood, and, well, life in general, I often struggle to get as much exercise as I would like these days, and when I do, I have tend to find it hard to push myself.
I had heard a lot about Apple Fitness Pluswho works in collaboration with the apple watch Where iPhone to guide you through various workouts, including yoga classes, runs, walks, strength training, and even meditations.
In an effort to up my fitness game, I tested Apple Fitness Plus for three months. Here’s how it worked for me.

What is Apple Fitness Plus?
First of all, what is Apple Fitness Plus, anyway? Apple Fitness Plus is a fitness program that works with a apple watch to offer you 11 different types of workouts. You need to have one iPhone to subscribe, and you can deepen your experience with a apple watchwhich will provide you with more personalized and detailed metrics.
Workouts included in Apple Fitness Plus include:
- strength training
- Conscious Cooldown
- Running on the treadmill
Workouts last from five to 45 minutes each, and new workouts and meditations are added weekly. Most workouts can be done with or without equipment, so you don’t have to worry about having access to a gym to exercise.

If you already have a apple watch, you can get one month free and then pay $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year. If you buy a apple watch, Apple Fitness Plus is free for three months, then you’ll pay $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year. You can also share Apple Fitness Plus with up to five family members. - Can pull you out of the flow of a workout

Fitness has always been an important part of my life, and while I still find time to fit in with it most of the time (even if it’s not easy!), one problem I constantly have is for not wanting to force me. I don’t know if it has to do with the pandemic, aging, parenthood – the list goes on – but over the past year or so I’ve often found myself slacking off a bit during my workouts and not push me as much as I know I could be.

While I’m all for relaxing once in a while, I knew I needed a little extra push. And that was the main benefit I got from Apple Fitness Plus: when using the Time to Run feature, for example, my guide let me know when I should pick up the pace and when I could slow it down. . When I run alone I don’t really think about it, I just try to get through the race.
And as a yogi, I loved the yoga feature. Because I’ve been doing yoga for so many years, I don’t really need a screen for it, but since the pandemic started, I’ve had to put up various YouTube videos (and watch ads) on my computer to do yoga. With the Apple Fitness Plus yoga feature, I was able to browse yoga streams without a screen, which I absolutely loved.
I also loved the guided walks. Walking is one of my favorite forms of exercise, but as it’s a little slower I sometimes find myself ruminating rather than staying in the moment – it’s definitely not something I want do while walking! Time to Walk helped break that cycle because I was able to listen to the voice of the instructor and stay present.

The only issue I have with Apple Fitness Plus is that while the monthly cost isn’t too high, you need to own Apple products to actually use it. And I have one apple watch, which really helps. When I’m running, for example, and the monitor tells me to pick up the pace, my watch can tell me exactly how fast I’m going. With just one iPhoneI wouldn’t know.
Would I Recommend Apple Fitness Plus? Absolutely, especially if you already own Apple products, especially a apple watch. It can help you push yourself and train even when you feel like you don’t have time. With workouts as short as five minutes, I know this to be true: we all have time!
