FORT CARSON, Colo. — The Ivy Fitness Center held its annual Cinco de Mayo spin class on May 7, 2022, with Ivy spin class instructors Lorraine Thorson and Lorrie Thorson teaching the one-hour, 45-minute class.

The extra-long class was designed to celebrate Cinco de Mayo; participants were able to win prizes while working their bodies.

Cinco de Mayo is a Mexican holiday that celebrates the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. The victory was one of the few battles won by Mexico against France. The French plan was to colonize Mexico and exploit its natural resources and support the American Confederacy.

With Cinco de Mayo the spin class theme, the upbeat music was enthusiastically received by everyone. Spin class member Tenesha McCloud came to the event to be with her friends but ended up being the life of the party as she really enjoyed the music and camaraderie.

“I’m having an amazing time, and it’s so much fun. The instructors and the music really energize me,” McCloud said. here and the vibe and people make it a really fun course. Seeing how everyone is into the music and the exercises, you can’t help but want to be as involved as they are.

Evielin Henry enjoyed the course at her own pace.

“I come to spin classes all the time. I’m a bit older than most people here, but I still come here and do what I can do and really enjoy the class. I love these classes because they keep me healthy and can keep up with my adult children and grandchildren. I love coming to class with my daughters and the other ladies who I affectionately call the loudmouths who make class fun and exciting,” said Henry.

Christina Turnipseed said she loved how the classes helped her stay in good shape and even loved that she was still feeling the effects of the class the next day. She said the pain she feels lets her know she’s getting the workout she desires and all the benefits of the spin class.

“I’ve been giving spinning classes for three years now, and I love the atmosphere and the instructors here who make class fun. I admit I get sore after class as it gives me a full body workout which I love. When I feel a little bad the next day, I know I’m putting in a good effort in class because I love that feeling of pushing my body to that limit,” Turnipseed said. Ivy Physical Fitness Center hosts spin classes every Saturday. morning from 9 to 10 a.m. for $3 per class.
