Griffith City Council has appointed a new manager at the Griffith Regional Water Recreation Center (GRALC), welcoming Griffith resident Craig Tilston to the position.

Mr. Tilston is a long-time supporter of the Center and brings to this position years of community experience, as well as a passion for swimming and sports activities.

“I’m extremely proud to have been appointed to this role – as my daughter told me, it’s like I’ve come full circle and being part of an industry I’m really passionate about,” said said Mr. Tilston.

“Having been a strong supporter of GRALC over the years, I look forward to working with the dedicated team, our patrons, community groups and other stakeholders to develop the center and increase usage across all areas including Splash Swim School, Leisure Swim and Gymnasium.

“I have a vision for the future of the facility – to run bigger and more prestigious swimming carnivals to use the amazing 50m pool, we are also looking at introducing summer water polo after the community feedback, working with community groups to increase participation and water activities, and aligning the GRALC with other sports organizations when competitions are held in the city so that Griffith can truly be considered an area for all sports,” he added.

GRLAC currently offers an award-winning Splash Swim School, but Mr Tilston would like to see the number grow and reach as many non-swimmers as possible.

“Griffith is surrounded by water and water safety is paramount for all non-swimmers,” Mr Tilston said.

“I would like to build on our very successful and highly respected swimming school to provide people with the opportunity to learn to swim in a safe, friendly and inclusive environment.”

Plans for “the fitness club” are underway, with Mr Tilston aiming to develop and promote offerings to customers and help them achieve their fitness goals.

“But above all, I want to promote a fun, friendly and inclusive experience from the moment you walk through the door so that our customers will want to come back again and again,” added Mr. Tilston.

Max Turner, Director of Business, Cultural and Financial Services, said he was delighted to have Craig join the team and looked forward to seeing his vision come to fruition.
