KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The UIndy volleyball team (10-6, 3-2 GLVC) earned a thrilling five-set victory over Truman (1-13, 1-5 GLVC) on Saturday night, sweeping the Bulldogs after trailing by two sets early.
The reverse sweep is the second for the Greyhounds team, who first accomplished the feat in early September against Bentley.
My Kenna Barnhart led a solid Greyhound defense, recording 19 digs and adding four service aces. Senior Grace Hegwood paced offensively, finishing with 16 kills on .310 hitting from the outside.
HOW DID IT HAPPEN
Trailing 2-0, UIndy dominated the third set, limiting Truman to a meager 0.021 attack. A 5-1 stretch down the middle of the frame gave the Greyhounds a massive 16-11 advantage, before Sophie Parlanti tallied a pair of late wins to cap the set victory.
Despite the close scoreline, the Greyhounds were in control for most of the fourth, including a kill from Elizabeth Eads to increase the lead to 20-16. Hannah Sabotin sandwiched another Parlanti putaway to force a fifth and final set.
UIndy got six of his fifth frame points on serve, with the aces provided by Barnhart and Hegwood. The senior Hegwood also had half of the team’s four kills in the game, with the defense forcing four attacking errors from Bulldog.
