CHICAGO (NewsNation Now) – The average American manages to spend 36 days in the New Year before giving up on resolutions, according to a WalletHub study.

With health and fitness being the top two resolutions for 2022, Tony Horton, creator of the P90X workout, joined “Morning in America” to share tips for setting realistic weight loss goals.

Horton said having focused goals is good for consistency.

“It’s a long term issue,” said Horton. “So the idea here is to try and jump into something you love and do it on a regular basis beyond February 3rd. ”

He says being in good physical shape also improves your mental and emotional health.

“It’s a mental and emotional thing. When you move physically, you release norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin, ”said Horton. “A lot of people are sources outside of themselves instead of using themselves as a source to feel better every day.”

Horton also recommends working from home for added convenience and bringing in a few accountability partners to help keep you on track.

“What really matters is the company you keep. Try with people you can count on, ”he said. “I always tell people to have at least five to 10 people you can train with online or at home.”
