Kushner officially opened One Journal Square, a two-rise mixed-use complex in downtown Jersey City. The development will create over 2 million square feet with a mix of rental apartments and amenities, retail space, an enclosed parking garage and publicly accessible green space facing John F Boulevard. Designed by Woods Bagot, the two towers will rise to 64 stories, with the residential component taking up the majority of the floor space. This includes 1,723 rental apartments ranging from studios to three-bedroom units and 45,000 square feet of amenities.

The amenities offering includes an Olympic-size indoor pool, cold pool and hot tub, sauna and steam rooms, bowling alley, golf simulator, multiple lounges, co-working space, kitchen chef and a kids club. Health and wellness facilities will include a fitness center, separate yoga and workout room, spin bike suite, full-size indoor basketball court, rock climbing wall and a squash court.

Tenants will also have access to two landscaped rooftop terraces and an outdoor lounge pool with hot tub.

Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop, members of Kushner’s management team and others drove ceremonial shovels into the ground to mark the start of construction at One Journal Square, a mixed-use development in nearly $1 billion that will create more than 2 million square feet of residential, retail, amenities, parking and open space in the heart of the historic and well-connected Journal Square neighborhood.

“This project is without question the most important project we have in Jersey City and probably the most important project in New Jersey,” Jersey City Mayor Steven J. Fulop said. “If you can imagine this being done in the next 36 months, and all the other things in Journal Square moving forward simultaneously, you can get a little glimpse of what it will be like in three short years, and the most important project for making it a reality is One Journal Square.

The ground floor will support 40,000 square feet of retail space. According to an announcement from the developer, a “AAA tenant” for the retail business has been secured, but not yet announced by the project team.

One Journal Square is expected to be completed in 2026. The total cost of the project is estimated at approximately $1 billion.
