MANISTEE – The Manistee Recreation Association Board of Directors took steps to appoint Dursa Marshall as its new chief executive on April 15. Dursa’s first day in her new role will be Friday.

Current interim executive director Mitch Deisch will continue with the MRA in an administrative support role until a new program manager is hired, then step down and join the MRA board.

Marshall brings a strong background in fitness and recreation to the MRA. Previous experience includes serving as the Fitness Center Manager at Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital for 19 years, which required strong organizational skills, excellent customer service and strong management skills.

Marshall also holds a Bachelor of Science, Leadership and Leisure Management degree from Ferris State University with a focus on fitness and corporate wellness. Additionally, Marshall served on the MRA Board of Directors for 10 years.

“We are extremely pleased that Dursa has accepted the role of Executive Director of the MRA. Dursa is a local and understands the importance of the MRA to our community. Her combined experiences in running the fitness center, serving on the board of administration of the MRA for 10 years, being the mother of a young MRA athlete and her training in recreational leadership will serve the MRA well as she leads the organization into the future,” said the MRA President Kenny Kott.

“I have known, respected and worked with Dursa on the MRA Board of Directors for over a decade. I have always appreciated her willingness to step in to help, her forward thinking and exceptional skills in human relations. I have been fortunate to have been involved with the MRA for over two decades, both on the Board and now as Acting Executive Director. I believe Dursa has all the right skills and capabilities to move the MRA forward to bigger and better things. The sky is the limit for the MRA with Dursa at the helm. I look forward to working with Dursa and the new Program Manager during this transitional time” , said Deisch.
