Matcha Cita, Chicago’s first matcha-focused cafe, will open its second location in River North on Friday, October 7. After a temporary move to Lincoln Park in 2021, Matcha Cita opened a permanent location in April 2022 in the West Loop at 1017 W. Lake St. Located in Studio Three at 648 N. Clark Street, the new cafe will have seating at inside and out with Instagrammable decor that’s retro and geometric in design with tropical vibes similar to the West Loop location.

Founded by Bianca Pearson with co-owner Vincent Lujan, Matcha Cita was born out of Pearson’s love for matcha and stylish interior design. A play on and reference to the timeless coffee date, Matcha Cita roughly translates to “matcha date” in Spanish. Cultivating personal creativity and a balanced lifestyle, Matcha Cita aims to produce a lively and welcoming experience with everything from an innovative matcha menu to visually elegant décor.

“Following the welcome reception we received in the West Loop, we are excited to expand and bring Matcha Cita to Studio Three in River North. Studio Three is a boutique fitness center offering fitness classes in group on interval, cycle and yoga. Their tight-knit community makes it a perfect spot for our second coffee,” Pearson said. “Most of our drinks and bowls use matcha, a powder made from the leaves of antioxidant-rich green tea, so it’s the perfect post-workout treat.”

Designed by East Interiors, the cafe will mimic the West Loop location with a retro, geometric design with tropical vibes. The space will be bold and bright with a palette of vibrant pastels accented by tropical print wallpaper. Bright accent pieces will adorn the cafe like custom-made neon signs, greenery, palm trees, disco balls, and boldly patterned encaustic floor tiles in pink, greige, and cream hues. The café will also feature two picture-worthy swings with floral decor.

Matcha Cita’s River North location will offer seating for 12 people among white marble cafe tables. During the warmer months, guests will enjoy a cozy sidewalk patio equipped with several tables.


Using matcha, a powder made from antioxidant-rich green tea leaves and other superfood ingredients, the menu price will range from $4.29 to $13.95 and will include specialty matcha drinks, more 20 smoothies, juices, toast, coffee from Lavazza, kombucha and cold brew on tap, a selection of pastries, healthy on-the-go items that will change weekly and more. Complementing the bright and colorful space, Matcha Cita’s menu items are equally playful, providing an overall Instagrammable experience.

Highlights include hot and iced matcha drinks like the Bluetiful with matcha, blue spirulina, blueberry and vanilla almond milk, the Pink Señorita with matcha, strawberry, pitaya and coconut milk, and Purple Haze with matcha, lavender, CBD and oat milk. Guests can customize their drinks with fun accessories ranging from $1.95 to $3.95, including Make Me Pretty (collagen), Make It Lucky (lucky charm), Make Me Mellow (CBD), Make Me Strong ( protein) and Make It Matcha (matcha). Seasonal highlights will include a Pumpkin Spice Horchata Matcha with pumpkin spice, cinnamon, matcha and vanilla almond milk and a Cardamom and Brown Sugar Matcha Latte with cardamom, brown sugar, a choice of milk and matcha.

Foods will include smoothie bowls like a matcha bowl with a mix of matcha, banana, mango and vanilla almond milk, a Pitaya bowl with a mix of pitaya, strawberry, banana and milk almond with vanilla, and the blue bowl mixed with blue spirulina, banana and mango. , and vanilla almond milk.

Matcha Cita at Studio Three will be open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Delivery will also be available through Uber Eats, Grubhub, Caviar and DoorDash.
