Wigan Athletic won the Sky Bet League One title for the fourth time last season and were automatically promoted to the Championship, having narrowly avoided relegation to League Two the season before.

Managed by Leam Richardson, this is the Latics’ first season in the Championship since being relegated at the end of the 2019/20 season.

Jack Whatmough

The defender joined the Latics in the summer before the 2021/22 season after making over 100 appearances for Portsmouth FC. The 26-year-old played a key role in helping the Latics win the 2021/22 Sky Bet League 1 title and for that reason has been honored with a number of individual accolades, winning the Player of the year of the club and being named. in the EFL and PFA Teams of the Season. The former England U18 international will be looking to achieve the same achievements this season.

James McClean

The midfielder returned to DW Stadium on an initial one-year contract in the summer of 2021, six years after leaving the Latics after attracting attention and moving to West Brom Albion in the Premier League in 2015. McClean has spending three seasons with the Baggies before joining Stoke City and after mustering over 300 top and league appearances, the 33-year-old brings the experience and quality he has acquired to Wigan Athletic.
