SALEM – The Salem Community Center has completed a massive upgrade to its fitness center to celebrate its 20th anniversary in Salem.

The renovation includes 40 new pieces of fitness equipment, including an all-new section of functional strength training equipment and a new deadlift platform, at a total cost of $180,000, all at no additional cost to the members.

“It’s our gift to the community for supporting us for 20 fantastic years,” said Heather Young, executive director of the Salem Community Center.

Newly installed equipment is all latest models produced by Nautilus with all previous Cybex equipment at the center replaced on an individual basis including all center lift benches in addition to new installations including equipment to supply equipment comprehensive, deep, core, upper body and lower body workout options for limbs.

Among the most exciting additions for fitness enthusiasts will be the introduction of all-new plate, cable and free weight loading systems, as well as two new fully adjustable squat racks. Young noted his particular enthusiasm for the new plate and cable charging systems due to the increased accessibility afforded by the greater freedom of movement they allow, saying “our goal as a community center is to serve all populations, we have members ranging in age from toddlers to our oldest members in their 90s.”
