Union City Opens Fitness Center in Johnson City Park

(JOHNSON CITY) — The City of Union officially opened a new fitness court at the Johnson City Flower Park on Tuesday, with the goal of making it easier for parents to work out if their kids are playing. .

“I think it’s a plus for parents because it’s next to the pools and the playground, so if you’re working there are activities to keep them busy so you can work out,” said Heather Stalley.

Union Town Councilor Heather Stalley said the pitch is a great symbol for everyone to get fit. She said exercise is an important way to stay healthy and increase your lifespan and thanks to the grant they received from the National Fitness Campaign they were able to provide residents with a pitch fitness to do it.

“We did research over a year or more ago on the rate of being overweight and inactive in people, in general and it has increased due to the lockdown and everything with COVID, but we have just felt we needed something like this in our area,” Sandy Dellapenna Bauman said.

Stalley said it was the first city in the region to sponsor a fitness center in New York State. Dellapenna said the idea behind the outdoor fitness court is to get everyone outside and active on hot days instead of inside. She said they plan to open a second fitness center in Endicott to continue promoting the importance of fitness.
